Summer Style

Have you seen the new sandal boots that everyone is wearing this year? Well, I think they are rather strange and probably would never have bought myself a pair but for a happy set of circumstances.

I went out for a coffee with a friend at the local mall. After a shot of caffeine and a chat we took a walk around the mall and ended up looking at shoes. I spotted this pair by Dive & Co. for only €42 and was so curious about them that my friend talked me into trying them on. Once they were on my feet, I was sold. They are the most comfortable shoes I have ever had. I don't know how, but they don't rub on any part of my feet, they are fantastic.

Of course, my sons thought it was a riot that I bought shoes when out with my friend Anna Scarpa (scarpa means "shoe" in Italian)...

The next problem was trying to figure out how to wear them. They are kind of tricky because visually they cut off the line of your legs and make them look shorter. One way to go is with skinny jeans, but it is too hot these days to even think about jeans.
What do you think, does the look above work?

Or are they better with a shorter skirt? My husband took this picture and missed the whole idea that the focus of the photo was supposed to be on the shoes...

There you go, now you can see the shoes!

No shoes here, but I wanted to show off another one of my bargain purchases. I found this cute summer dress at H&M for only €10. That was full price, not sale price! If I look a little exhausted in this photo, that's because I was. And hot, too.

My photographer of choice is my 10-year-old son. Not because he has talent or the desire to take pictures of his wacky mamma, but because he is a good kid and will actually do it when I beg him to.

This last photo shows my true nature. Gabri was not into the picture-taking and here I'm saying, "well, are you gonna take the picture or what?!" Bad Mamma!

Ciao Saretta! I've been eyeing those type of sandals all summer with the same level of initial suspicion. I haven't tried them on yet, though. They look great on you! Love the look with the khaki skirt especially. It looks to have been a successful shopping trip! :-)

i actually love the way they look! but as soon as i read that they make one's legs look shorter i realize they aren't for me. i have a lonnnnng body and short legs - i have a friend who is 5'3 and i'm 5'7 and we wear the same length pants! yes, she is proportioned with long legs for her height - but still!

Hi Saretta, came over from Laura's blog. I have seen so many wearing this type of sandal/boot/shoe.. not sure at all, but unless I try them on , can never say never.

I love the look in the khaki skirt (top photo) think they go best with this outfit.

You need the right clothes and the right attitude to wear those sandals. But then, so were platform shoes back in their days. If they are comfortable, then they are tops in my world.

I'm already short, and I think I'd pass on the sandle shoes. An interesting concept though! I love the dress!

Stopping by from Mom Bloggers Club! Glad I did! :)

Thanks for commenting on my blog. Now, the shoes. Yes, I find them a bit strange, but it looks like you can pull off the look. I prefer them in the first pic with the slightly longer skirt.

ABMom - you can't beat flip-flops for comfort, and when you're pregnant, comfort is even more important than usual!
Laura - try them, you might like them!
Kimy - you could try them with skinny leg pants, I bet that would minimize the leg length problem!
Anne - thanks for your opinion on the outfit, seems like everyone likes the first look best!
Beth - thanks! But, you'll never know how you look if you don't try them! You might be pleasantly surprised!
Lakeviewer - I'm developing some "attitude" in middle-age! LOL!
Sweet Mummy - welcome to Amid the Olive Trees. I'll come visit your blog soon!
Embejo - ok, thanks for your opinion! This is like having an extra batch of girlfriends to show my new clothes to...fun!
Debra Joy - go for it! They shouldn't be too hard to find, they are all the rage this year.
Alicia - thanks! How can I follow your blog? Visited but couldn't figure it out...

You look great in these shoes! Think they look very cute in both photos, but especially like you in the short mini - your legs do not look short! Instead, long and lean (what is your secret, by the way:))

I have been hemming and hawing about these sandals all season, secretly coveting them but now sure if I could pull them off. I am now already planning if I can run out and get the ones I've had my eye on without messing up naps! You have sold me on them!

Hi Karen, thanks for the sweet comment. Those legs are the result of jogging and 3x a week in the gym...plus a balanced, healthy diet. No pain, no gain? ;-)
