A Swing

After living in this house for 3 years, we finally got it together to put up a swing in the yard. Well, my husband did it all, actually. He cut the piece of wood and the ropes, but G. found the right tree with just the right kind of swing-bearing limb.

He's so happy with his swing. In the photo above, he is swinging before going to school. He swings when he comes home and in the afternoon, too. I'm thrilled because this boy is a bit too TV and Nintendo dependent otherwise. He doesn't play sports and tends to stay inside rather than going out to play spontaneously...that means he goes out just about only when I yell, "get outside and have some fun now, dammit!" Well, of course I'm exagerating, but not much!

Today he told me, "I don't think there's any child in the world who doesn't like swinging!"

Wish we had a tree to put a swing in - the present seems to be the "inside generation". My son (6 yrs) is exactly the same, apart from the 3-4 weeks in Italy in the summer:)

It's the first thing I put up when we got a garden with a decent sized tree. I used to love them (I still use ours).

Calzette - where do you stay when you come to Italy?

Scintilla - I still love swings! They are exhilirating!

well, we try to explore a new region each year and we love Calabria and Puglia. I used to live up north, in Piemonte and Emilia Romagna when I was "young" and never got to go south then. Last year we did Toscana, but this year we'll probably have to skip it altogether as we're buying a new house here in Sweden. But I'll enjoy Italy through the eyes of all the nice bloggers:)

I have to agree with your son and say that I think that applies to 'kids' of all ages! I am over 30 and would love nothing more than my own swing!

I spent hours on swings everywhere. It's strange how simple toys kidnapp children everywhere a part culture, traditions, habits.
